Field Intelligence

The Field Intelligence Section units are placed strategically throughout the province in Kingston, London, Ottawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, Orillia, Niagara Falls and Windsor. Although some units are joint forces partnerships with other law enforcement agencies, the OPP takes on a co-ordinating role. There is also an Aboriginal Issues Unit within the Field Intelligence Section.

The Field Intelligence Section units co-ordinate intelligence operations in relation to major criminals and organized crime groups in accordance with the POIB mandate by developing contacts in law enforcement agencies and public and private sources (local, national, and international). These include sources operating on or near First Nation communities as well as those which may impact the operations of all casino and racing venues in Ontario.

The role of each unit is to carry out intelligence functions and to maintain an effective liaison program with law enforcement and government agencies provincially, nationally and internationally, within their geographic area of responsibility.
