Traffic Safety and Operational Support
As Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support, I welcome you to our site. The Command is comprised of three very distinct units; the Field Support Bureau, the Security Bureau and the Highway Safety Division.
Highway Safety Division
The Highway Safety Division incorporates the Provincial Support Unit, the former Greater Toronto Region and full time dedicated traffic units located in North West, North East, West, East and Central Regions. The Provincial Traffic Safety team consists of 771 Uniform, Civilian and Auxiliary members and a patrol area of 139,047 (hwy) kilometres of patrol area.
The Provincial Support Unit located at OPP General Headquarters in Orillia provides expertise and support to field members in many program areas related to Traffic Safety. The PSU is responsible for the provincial coordination for a wide range of OPP programs such as:
Aircraft Enforcement Program, Provincial Countermeasures – Speed and Impaired Driving, Provincial Marine and Snowmobile Program, Provincial Off Road Vehicle Program, Dangerous Goods / Commercial Motor Vehicles, Provincial Motorcycle Program and the Provincial Technical Traffic Collision Investigator /Reconstruction Program.
Field Support Bureau
The Field Support Bureau works in partnership with all areas of the OPP to deliver professional, cost effective and accountable services that support frontline service delivery. The Bureau provides a wide range of services including: Emergency Management, Emergency Response, Auxiliary and Flight Operations, Aboriginal Critical Incident Response and Offender Transportation.
The Security Bureau provides protection and safety services to a wide range of clients including the public, OPP employees, ministry officials and staff, justice officials, and many other groups.
Units include: Dignitary Protection & Investigations Section; Queen’s Park Detachment; General Headquarters Detachment & Duty Office; Justice Officials and Protection Section and the Security Enquiries Unit.
