Strategic Initiatives

As our lives, our world and the delivery of police services becomes more complex, we need to continually take stock of our processes and identify areas for growth in order to carry out our mandate effectively. Strategic Initiatives ensures the OPP remains visionary through strategic planning while maintaining the business planning process.

Strategic planning is not new to the OPP. However the recently created Strategic Initiatives Office is designed to play a leadership role in successfully identifying organizational priorities, and communicating and achieving its long-term strategic goals. This is accomplished by facilitating and aligning organization-wide strategic and business planning processes. The office identifies and champions strategic initiatives to progressively allow the OPP to set the benchmark of excellence in policing in the pursuit of our vision "Safe Communities… A Secure Ontario". These strategies have included the OPP Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and The French Language Services Strategy.

Corporate projects are also supported by Strategic Initiatives - providing expert advice and support in the implementation and evaluation of corporate/significant strategies. The office supports continuous improvement and project management excellence by developing and communicating leading methodologies and tools to support change management.

The Strategic Initiatives Office is committed to keeping OPP members informed on government and organizational priorities - demonstrating how their work contributes to these priorities. The OPP Strategic Plan, detachment, regional and bureau business plans feed into individual performance plans which then link to the big picture.   A shared vision and mission, and integrated strategies, are the thread that binds us together and provides the direction of how this great organization will evolve. The commitment to the three year OPP Strategic Plan is fuelled by the passion, energy and commitment of every employee and the citizens in the communities we serve. Only with a common purpose, active and sustained leadership, and tolerance for change will we be successful in achieving our vision of - "Safe Communities…A Secure Ontario.
