Decontamination
UCRT provides a variety of decontamination capabilities:
Members can conduct decontamination in all environments, using different equipment, to clean or neutralize a wide variety of potential agents or contaminants
When conducting decontamination members consider various methods of decontamination that are available which include:
Physical Removal
This is the most popular method of decontamination. Washing with water , or the methodical removal of contaminated clothing is typical. Brushing and mechanical cleaning may also be used to enhance the cleaning efforts;
Neutralizing or Destruction
Chemical and biological agents can be neutralized or destroyed by the use of chemical decontaminants. The UCRT has been utilized to perform decontamination at numerous calls which include "white powder" incidents, clandestine drug labs and landfill sites where OPP officers were searching for crime scene evidence.
